Sheffield CleanTech company named double champion in startup awards
Eutechtics, a member of our Cooper Project, has recently been named 'Green Startup' and 'Innovative Startup' of the year at the 2024 North East, Yorkshire and the Humber StartUp Awards.
Eutechtics is an eco-chemistry startup with a mission to decarbonise the chemical sector. Based at Sheffield Technology Parks, the company is developing groundbreaking, sustainable processes to cut harmful emissions in the production of chemicals such as carboxylic acids, which are used globally.
Armando Leal, Co-Founder of Eutechtics, says,
“Winning in not one but two categories of the Startup Awards is a big achievement for our company, showing that the judges recognise and believe in our potential to impact the fight against climate change.
“Our regional category covers a large area of the UK so we’re delighted to be a double champion, and we’re looking forward to progressing to the national finals where we hope for similar success.”
The UK StartUp Awards were established to highlight the success of startups across ten UK nations and regions, including the North East, Yorkshire and the Humber, and to celebrate the achievements of entrepreneurs in all sectors of the economy.
Over 70,000 new firms were created in the North East, Yorkshire and the Humber in 2023. According to a recent report from the South Yorkshire Mayoral Combined Authority (SYMCA), over 600 new tech firms emerged in 2023 in South Yorkshire alone.
Emma Marshall, Business Incubation Manager at Sheffield Technology Parks, says,
“Eutechtics is a deserving regional winner of both categories, given their green credentials and the pioneering science they are applying to cutting carbon emissions in a global industry.
“This company is a prime example of the innovation, talent and dynamism making up Sheffield and South Yorkshire’s rich tapestry of startups, and really drawing attention to our region. I am thrilled for Armando, Mauricio and the team to be recognised as the best amongst tough competition in the North.”
The Startup Awards are supported nationally by a range of partners including Starling Bank. Harriet Rees, CIO at Starling Bank says:
“Turning an idea into a successful business takes a lot of courage and dedication. Congratulations to Eutechtics on winning in two categories in the North East, Yorkshire and the Humber and making it to this year’s UK national final. Start-ups need certainty to plan ahead. It’s great to see so many thrive, especially in these challenging economic times.”
As a regional winner in their category, Eutechtics will now progress to the UK Startup Awards final being held at Ideas Fest on September 12th, dubbed ‘the Glastonbury for Entrepreneurs’.
