Sheffield Technology Parks strengthens leadership with two key board appointments
Sheffield Technology Parks (STP) is pleased to announce the appointment of two new members to its Board of Directors: Mel Kanarek and Claire Mayfield-Tulip. These appointments mark an exciting point in STP’s ongoing mission to support innovation, drive tech industry growth, and encourage entrepreneurship in Sheffield.
Mel Kanarek, a longstanding advocate for the city’s tech sector, brings over two decades of experience in the digital industries. She is a co-founder of Sheffield Digital, the city's association for the digital industries, and has been a pioneer in connecting and growing the region’s digital ecosystem.
“Over the past 10 years with Sheffield Digital, I've seen how the right kind of support can make all the difference to fledgling tech companies and ambitious founders,” Mel said. “They need flexible accommodation; access to networks, advice and funding; connections with other founders and potential collaborators, and a supportive community - all of which the STP model provides.”
Claire Mayfield-Tulip also joins the Board, bringing over 21 years of legal expertise in commercial property across Sheffield and South Yorkshire. A senior lawyer with deep roots in the business community, Claire’s insight into property, development, and the wider regional economy will help strengthen STP’s plans for growth and its ambitions for expanded and connected innovation spaces.
“I’ve worked with businesses across Sheffield for more than two decades and have seen how important it is to provide the right foundations for growth - not just physical space, but a real ecosystem of support,” said Claire. “STP plays a key role in that, and I’m excited to contribute to its vital work.”
The addition of Mel and Claire complements a diverse and experienced Board made up of business leaders, academics, and public sector representatives, all dedicated to championing the tech and innovation agenda in Sheffield.
“Mel and Claire bring a unique and powerful combination of experience, networks, and deep commitment to the region,” said Tom Wolfenden, CEO of Sheffield Technology Parks. “Mel’s knowledge of the digital sector and her connections with founders will be invaluable, while Claire’s commercial insight and legal expertise will help guide our ambitions to grow and invest in new spaces. We’re incredibly lucky to have them both joining the team.”
These appointments come at a pivotal time for Sheffield Technology Parks as it looks to build on recent successes and partnerships, develop new spaces for early-stage tech companies, and continue to position Sheffield as a thriving hub of innovation.
