Sheffield Innovation Spine
Founders, investors and local stakeholders all share a desire to grow businesses in Sheffield, but a lack of suitable clustering, incubation and scale-up space is holding them back, especially for deep-tech, med-tech and life-science companies.
The Sheffield Innovation Spine is a long term spatial and economic strategy to create and link the innovation infrastructure required to grow knowledge-led businesses in our city centre, creating high value employment opportunities and a thriving economy of world-class businesses.
Sheffield Technology Parks, Sheffield City Council, The University of Sheffield, Sheffield Hallam University and South Yorkshire Mayoral Combined Authority have initiated a two-year project to develop and launch a Sheffield Innovation Spine prospectus incorporating innovation spaces such as laboratories and specialist facilities, alongside housing, public realm and economic development activity.
The Sheffield Innovation Spine is poised to complement and boost innovation clusters in the North of England, strengthening the position of the Northern Triangle in developing a deeper innovation ecosystem with Leeds and Manchester.
At a regional level, the initiative will enhance the South Yorkshire Innovation District in providing a feeder pipeline of companies who will have access to the world-leading manufacturing and scale-up infrastructure located just two miles outside the city centre.
By combining our strengths we aim to create a compelling case for investment and retain talent in the region, collectively driving economic growth and innovation.
