Eutechtics secures strategic backing to decarbonise global chemical supply chains

At Sheffield Technology Parks, we are immensely proud to support innovators who are building solutions for a better, more sustainable future. That’s why we’re thrilled to celebrate a huge milestone from one of our former residents - Eutechtics, a chemistry startup on a mission to decarbonise the global chemical industry.

Eutechtics has just secured a £400,000 funding boost, combining a highly competitive Innovate UK Smart Grant with match funding from deeptech venture studio Prosemino. The funds will enable the company to scale up its groundbreaking platform, EvoCarbon, which transforms captured carbon dioxide (CO₂) into high-value carboxylic acids - the essential building blocks used in everything from food preservatives and cosmetics to pharmaceuticals and plastics.

“This award is a huge vote of confidence in our technology and our vision for fossil-free chemical manufacturing,” said Armando Leal, CEO and co-founder of Eutechtics. “We’re proud to be developing a platform that doesn’t just reduce emissions, but reimagines the supply chain using waste CO₂ as a resource.”

From York to Sheffield: the startup's first steps

Eutechtics joined STP through our LOCATE programme, relocating from York to take its first steps toward commercialisation and scaling up in Sheffield. They quickly became part of the Cooper Project, our incubator for early-stage tech startups. It’s been a pleasure to support Armando, Mauricio, and the team during those crucial early stages — from workspace and guidance to making the right connections in Sheffield’s innovation ecosystem.

Reinventing industrial chemistry

The chemical industry accounts for over 5% of global greenhouse gas emissions, largely due to its reliance on fossil fuels and energy-intensive production methods. Eutechtics is tackling this challenge head-on with a novel, circular chemistry process that uses recyclable green solvents and operates under mild, energy-efficient conditions.

Their EvoCarbon platform enables the low-carbon synthesis of carboxylic acids, offering manufacturers a route to reduce lifecycle emissions without sacrificing performance or scalability.

“Our chemical process can synthesize a family of carboxylic acids from carbon dioxide — opening a modular path to sustainable products across multiple industries,” said Dr. Luis Mauricio Murillo, CTO and co-founder.

Building a platform for global impact

With this latest round of funding, Eutechtics will spend the next 18 months focused on lab-based research, process optimisation, and market validation. The work will be carried out at both the University of York and Prosemino’s innovation facilities, giving the startup access to deep scientific expertise and hands-on commercial support.

“We don’t just invest or provide space – we work side-by-side with founders to turn promising science into scalable businesses,” said Dr. Gyen Ming Angel, Director of Venture Building at Prosemino.

Recognition and momentum

Since its time at STP, Eutechtics has racked up an impressive list of accolades:

  • Winner of the UK Climate Launchpad Competition (2023)

  • Best Business Idea – University of York Enterprise Awards (2023)

  • Green Startup and Innovate Startup of the Year – UK Startup Awards (2024)

  • Named one of Insider Media’s 50 Most Exciting Companies (2024)

  • Selected for the Royal Academy of Engineering’s Regional Talent Engines (2024)
Finalist in the Royal Society of Chemistry’s Emerging Technologies Competition (2024)

We’re incredibly proud to have played a small role in Eutechtics’ journey and can’t wait to see what comes next as they push toward commercial deployment.

Startups like Eutechtics are proof that with the right support at the right time, transformational ideas can become real-world solutions. We’ll be cheering them on every step of the way. You can follow their progress and find out more about the company on the website: eutechtics.com and on LinkedIn.
