Last week Suiso announced a £3m investment into its innovative development of hydrogen generators, designed to support decarbonisation and play a crucial role in global energy transition.
Suiso has raised £3m from NPIF – Mercia Equity Finance, which is managed by Mercia Ventures and part of the Northern Powerhouse Investment Fund, and Mercia's EIS funds.
The company spent eight weeks at Sheffield Technology Parks whilst transitioning from being an entirely virtual and remote business to establishing a new site at the Advanced Manufacturing Park in Rotherham.
We are proud to have been part of the Suiso journey and to have given them a foundation on which to build their South Yorkshire presence. We caught up with CEO, Stuart McKnight to find out a bit more about his decision to locate the company in our region.
“We reviewed various incubation spaces in Sheffield and Sheffield Technology Parks was much more suited to our needs in terms of flexibility, location, costs and support services” explains Stuart, adding: “It was exactly what we needed at the time - flexible desk and meeting room space, internet connectivity, a registered company address, and connections to the wider Sheffield community.”
By making introductions and helping Suiso to build connections with the local business community, our team accelerated the company’s move here, and kickstarted their recruitment, which was a key factor in their choice of location. Stuart says,
“Our decision to move to South Yorkshire was influenced by the close proximity to a strong pool of engineering talent and experience. Plus, there are a number of Hydrogen focussed businesses and organisations in the Sheffield and South Yorkshire area, not to mention the investment support from the Northern Powerhouse Investment Fund.”
Whilst we were delighted to have Suiso at the Tech Parks, the company needed more space for its experimental work and to grow its team into. They’ve now settled into a new, 7,500 sq ft home at the Advanced Manufacturing Park, where they are focussed on scaling up their technology.
There’s definitely big things to come from Suiso, another exciting, sustainability-focussed company that’s chosen South Yorkshire as the place to pioneer groundbreaking technologies. Keep an eye on Suiso’s website for the latest: suiso.co.uk
